Find out how to remove viruses, spyware and adware yourself. |
| When your PC is running slow the first thought is quite often "oh no! it's broken". I've had a number of my customers think they needed a new computer because it had slowed down. There are a number of ways to increase a computer's speed short of upgrading the hardware. Although none of these will be any good till you've covered the points below. I cover a number of those in my free report "7 ways to speed up your PC" but recently the problem of what is called spyware has been the most responsible for slowing down computers. As long as I keep my kids away from my machine I stay fairly safe from the junk that's floating about on the internet. However their computer is a completely different story. I first became aware of the problem when I had to use their machine for some reason and I couldn't believe how slow and screwed up it was. Then began the search to find what was wrong with it. I knew it wasn't the hardware so I started looking at what programs were running. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw more than forty programs running at startup which explained the reason it took 5 minutes to boot. I then spent hours learning the different ways of cleaning the system and finally got things under control. I had meant at some point to write about the procedures and resources I used but never quite got round to it. I read many posts on forums on the spyware subject and thought God help someone who doesn't have a computer background as it wasn't always easy to understand the methods recommended and a way of using them in a step by step fashion. That's why I was extremely impressed when I read a book by Adrian Ling recently which basically put the whole thing together so that anyone can clean up their own system and be sure they are doing it right. Adrian has done the whole thing using Free resources available on the internet and even shows you the rogue software that's out there to fool any unsuspecting novice into making things worse. Makes you wonder about the people that create those nasties. I would advise you to read Adrian's book "Spyware secrets revealed" right away and start cleaning up your system and protecting yourself from future infections. No anti-spyware program on
it's own seems to have the ability to detect and clean every piece of spyware
there is and although the free ones recommended in Adrian's book do a great job
there is one paid one I found that does an extremely good job of getting the
nasties that others leave behind. It has been voted PC magazine's top antispyware in their trials and I definitely recommend it.
